In clear violation of international norms and conventions, the occupation forces prevent the entry of Corona vaccines
Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights denounces the Israeli occupation authorities' preventing the entry of anti-virus vaccines into the Gaza Strip, especially under the deteriorating health conditions in the sector due to the great shortage of medicines and medical supplies. Al-Dameer calls on the international community and the World Health Organization to put pressure on the occupation to fulfil its legal and moral obligations towards the Gaza Strip.
According to the information available to Al-Dameer Association, the Minister of Health, Mai Al-Kaila, confirmed yesterday evening, Monday, February 15, 2021, that “the Israeli occupation authorities have prevented the entry of anti-Coronavirus vaccines that the ministry has conducted into the Gaza Strip.
According to the Hebrew-Israeli Kan channel, the Palestinian Authority delivered a batch of Corona vaccines, "Sputnik v", to the Beitunia crossing in preparation for transferring them to the Gaza Strip, but they were returned because the political leadership in Israel has not yet accepted the authority's request to transfer the vaccines to the Gaza Strip.
Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights affirms that the Gaza Strip is legally described as a territory subject to occupation in accordance with the rules of international humanitarian law, and that the Israeli occupation as an occupying power bears responsibility for the citizens of the Strip, and therefore the occupation authorities are obligated to fulfil their legal and humanitarian duties towards the occupied and besieged Gaza Strip. So that the occupation should take positive steps to ensure that medicines and vaccines arrive as soon as possible to the Gaza Strip and that citizens obtain their right to health. Therefore:
- Al-Dameer holds the Israeli occupation full responsibility for this procedure, which violates all international laws and agreements.
- It calls on the international community to put pressure on the occupation authorities to force them to abide by their duties, and to allow the entry of anti-Coronavirus vaccines into the Gaza Strip.
